Get Smudged @ GOTH BEACH: the Suffer Spa

Just as they were in the days of Anthoney and Cleopatra, therapeutic Mud Baths are still celebrated  today for their ability to soften skin, improve circulation, and ease aches and pains.  Some say Mud detoxifies.  But you would have to be toxic first…before one could detoxify.

Some things to know before your first mud bath treatment.

  • Some Mud baths are  heated, which helps to invigorate circulation. Most mud baths contain a mixture of hot spring water and volcanic ash, where-asn ours contains the tastes-of-Oysters Great South Bay Bottom.
  • Most people don’t choose to enter a mud bath completely naked. So  cover up a few parts, wear an old bathing suit, underwear, or ratty T-shirt and shorts, as everything will likely be permanently mud-stained forever  afterwards.  [we are developing a new line of mud-stained clothes…. the 70’s tie-dyes of the 20’s]
  • You won’t  sink into the mud and drown.
  • What rhymes with muck?  You will watch your soul slip from your body when completely covered in mud. Yuck.  Just kidding,  However, you will develop a new relationship with your ego and neurotic cleanliness.
  • This is either the cheapest psychotherapy or the most expensive shower. This is the other-side of clean. Jungian Shadow-work.
  • You’ll probably sweat —but that’s a good thing, since the sweating is what helps cleanse your pores.  How does fine silt clean your pores? I don’t know…but it does
  • The mud is a little smelly, well sometimes very sea or Oceanic. Also,  since essential minerals often have a high sulphur content and bay bottom.
  • Mud baths loosen up the muscles, so if you’re having multiple treatments at a spa, you’ll want to do the mud bath before the massage.
  • Mud baths are not for everyone. They’re NOT recommended for pregnant women or for anyone with high or low blood pressure, a heart condition, an open wound or rash, or heat sensitivity. Ask your doctor if you have any concerns at all.
  • Mud baths feel great—but the effects don’t last as long as other spa treatments, because the minerals in the mud can’t make it past the first layer of skin. You won’t mind, though, since that gives you a good excuse to return!

The Great South Bay’s mud flats, and mud paints were first used by the  American Indians more than 2,000 years ago  who lauded their curative powers, trans inductions  and transformational aspects.
